My approach to therapy is rooted in trauma-informed and cognitive-behavioral practices, with specialized training in EMDR and perinatal/women's mental health. I use a flexible blend of evidence-based treatment tailored to your personal goals and needs.
I work holistically, meaning that I take into consideration many aspects of your wellbeing. I draw from a range of theories, including: CBT, Psychodynamic, Interpersonal, and Attachment-Based. I seek to provide you with a safe space to share your story.
My Approach
Walk and Talk
Walk and Talk therapy, sometimes referred to as nature therapy, is just what it sounds like! During a walk and talk session we would leave my office and have our session while walking on the greenway or another agreed upon location within the Triangle area.
What is EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy treatment that is designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories. There are 8 phases of EMDR, during which we will work together to target past memories that are contributing to your current symptoms. We will use bilateral stimulation (like tapping or eye movements) until the target memory becomes less distressing. EMDR therapy is an effective, evidence-based treatment that helps to resolve traumatic memories, symptoms, and triggers associated with the incident. EMDR can be especially helpful for clients who have tried traditional talk therapy in the past and continue to feel stuck, despite having a good understanding of their past.
Perinatal Mental Health
Most people are aware of postpartum depression, but depression can also occur during pregnancy. Other perinatal mental illnesses include anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), postpartum psychosis, and bipolar mood disorders. 1 in 5 women experience a perinatal mental health problem, yet these experiences are rarely discussed openly, leaving many women feeling alone. Parents of every culture, age, income level and race can develop perinatal mental health disorders. Symptoms can appear at any time during pregnancy and within the first 12 months after childbirth. There are effective and well-researched treatment options to help you recover. You are not alone.
